About Elements Psychological Services
Dr. Jessica McCarthy founded Elements Psychological Services in July 2020 in Montvale, NJ. She had a vision to create a practice of doctoral-level psychologists who are experts in their respective fields of adult and child neuropsychology and clinical psychology. She is fortunate enough to begin this journey with two colleagues, Dr. Jessica Poggioli and Dr. Debra Bashist, who were an integral part of her graduate school training.
Dr. McCarthy also wanted to create a space (both in-person and remotely) that was comfortable, easy to access, and that both patients and team members alike were valued and felt empowered to excel in.
With this, and in the middle of a pandemic, Elements Psychological Services was born.
Why “Elements?”
The human experience is complex. How we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us can vary at any given moment. But what drives these variations?
Happiness may lead to one decision. Sadness, another. Guilt, joy, anger – whatever the emotion, we, often unknowingly, make choices in service of those emotions. We also judge emotions as good or bad, experiences we want more or less of, and tend to be inflexible in our judgment of these emotional experiences.
Now, consider the elements – fire, water, air, and earth. Each of these has the capability to help or harm, or be powerful on its own or in tandem with another element. If we only saw each element from one side, one vantage point, we would completely miss out on other opportunities to maximize and appreciate their use.
Therefore, the power of each element, and of every person who comes through our doors, is the extent to which we can be flexible in how we choose to navigate life and its accompanying emotional experiences. The work is in designing your framework for living that is less focused on emotions and more focused on values and living a life that is more consistent with who you want to be.
It is our mission to empower you with knowledge and teach you the skills and tools for a flexible and more functional way of living.
What to Expect
From your initial phone call or e-mail, we take the time to connect with you to understand how we can best help you. Phone calls or messages are typically returned within one business day, but typically are returned much sooner than this.
We are an entirely electronic practice, meaning that all intake paperwork and billing documents will be sent to you via our secure and HIPAA-compliant electronic health record (EHR), Simple Practice. It is important to keep this up-to-date with all of your contact information, so any notices or documents we send to you arrive where they need to be. We also use this system to conduct our teletherapy sessions for sessions conducted remotely.
For those of you being seen in-person, our spacious and inviting offices have been designed to put you at ease so you can dive deep into the work. Our office is also handicap accessible and offers ample free parking.
