Approach
Dr. Cao is a post-doctoral fellow at Elements Psychology. She is passionate about helping children, and is committed to providing families with the highest quality of care. In practice, she considers the whole child and how their emotional, social, and physical health interact together. Additionally, she takes a collaborative approach to treatment and strives to work with parents and teachers to build a team that supports the child/adolescent’s full potential (as the saying goes, it takes a village!)
Specialties
Dr. Cao has extensive experience working with a wide variety of mental health challenges including ADHD, anxiety, autism, depression, OCD, and trauma. She is a member of The Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (Division 53 of the American Psychological Association), and regularly stays updated on the latest research and best practices in child psychology. She utilizes a variety of evidence- based therapy techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), parent management training (PMT), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Because every child’s journey is unique, and she tailors the treatment plans to meet each individual’s specific needs and circumstances. She is a strong advocate for children’s and adolescents’ mental health and is committed to raising awareness about the importance of early intervention. She believes that all children deserve to have access to quality mental health care and is working to make that a reality.
Experience & Training
Dr. Cao received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Georgia and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. She completed her APA-accredited doctoral internship at Westchester Jewish Community Services in New York.
