Benefits of a Comprehensive Evaluation
Greater Understanding for Children and Families
A comprehensive evaluation helps children and parents make sense of their experiences. Understanding why a child thinks differently, learns rapidly, struggles in certain situations, or experiences intense emotions can reduce frustration and increase self-awareness, confidence, and self-advocacy.
Educational Planning & School Supports
Evaluation results can guide decisions about academic placement, enrichment opportunities, acceleration, and individualized supports. For some children, findings may support eligibility for accommodations through a 504 Plan or specialized services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) when a co-occurring disability impacts educational functioning.
While many people associate IEPs and 504 Plans with learning challenges, gifted and twice-exceptional students may also qualify for accommodations that help them access the curriculum and demonstrate their abilities effectively.
Optimizing Home and School Environments
Understanding your child’s cognitive, emotional, and learning profile allows caregivers and educators to create environments that better match their needs. Recommendations may address:
- Learning and study strategies
- Academic enrichment and challenge
- Executive functioning supports
- Sensory and emotional regulation needs
- Communication and behavior strategies at home and school
Emotional & Social Development
Gifted and 2e children often experience heightened emotional sensitivity, perfectionism, anxiety, or difficulty relating to same-age peers. An evaluation can help identify these patterns and provide strategies for supporting healthy emotional development, resilience, and self-esteem.
