Approach/Specialties
Mrs. Tara Donatiello is a licensed associate counselor who offers psychotherapy to all ages, but specializes in working with children ages 4-14. Tara is experienced in the treatment of anxiety, ADHD, and behavioral challenges, as well as family changes and loss. Tara comes from a person-centered background, believing a strong relationship is an important component for positive change, and utilizes a variety of approaches, including play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions to create an individualized experience best suited for each client.Understanding and approachable, Tara provides a safe, caring environment where children and teens feel comfortable. Tara also works closely with parents, offering support and helping them build skills to address the challenges their children are facing.
Experience and Training
Tara received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Kean University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The College of New Jersey. Tara completed internships at Main Street Counseling and in the West Orange Public School District, where she later worked as an elementary (K-5) school counselor for ten years before transitioning to working in private practice. In addition to completing her supervision hours towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, Tara is in the process of completing training and supervision to become a Registered Play Therapist. Tara is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in the state of New Jersey, and a New Jersey Certified School Counselor. Tara was nominated as a 2023 NJ Favorite Kids’ psychotherapy specialist in NJ Family Magazine.
