Pediatric OCD
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves unwanted thoughts, worries, images, or urges that lead to repetitive behaviors, rituals, reassurance-seeking, or avoidance. OCD can interfere with school, friendships, family life, and a child’s overall well-being.
At Elements Psychological Services, treatment for pediatric OCD utilizes Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for OCD. ERP helps children gradually face fears and uncertainty while learning to resist compulsive behaviors. Over time, children develop greater confidence, flexibility, and resilience, allowing them to take back control from OCD and engage more fully in the activities that matter most to them.
Parents play an important role in treatment. OCD often pulls families into cycles of accommodation, reassurance, and avoidance that unintentionally strengthen symptoms. Parent involvement helps caregivers learn how to support their child while reducing accommodations, promoting independence, and reinforcing the skills being developed in therapy.
Our approach is informed by training through the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA) at the University of Pennsylvania, founded by internationally recognized OCD expert Dr. Edna Foa, a pioneer in the development and dissemination of ERP treatment.
